Our Servers
Currently the Xevium Network only has one server, Nayuki.TX.US.Xevium.Net. However, we are always looking for friendly server administrators with or without existing users. If you would like to apply to link with us, please first read the linking guidelines below, then send an e-mail to support@xevium.net with your request.
Linking Guidelines
Xevium imposes the following "rules" on servers wanting to link to the network. They are non-negotiable.
- OS requirement: Must be running a distribution of Linux. The specific distribution does not matter. Windows servers are not allowed on this network!
- Connection speed: Must be on a T1 or higher connection - NO business DSL/cable or home DSL/cable lines please.
- Uptime requirement: Must have 99% guaranteed uptime.
- Server Type: Must be a dedicated server. VPS's are permitted provided that the company allows IRC/IRCd use on it. IRCd shells are only permitted on a case-by-case basis, and are generally NOT recommended.
- Server Software: Must be using InspIRCd 2.0 (you will be provided a copy upon being accepted)
- Access: Access to the username running your IRCd must be granted to at least one of the senior staff.
- Updates: The username running your IRCd must also be allowed to execute commands using the "sudo" command, to ensure the server stays up-to-date with important security updates. Ensure this is installed/enabled properly on your server BEFORE applying to link.
- Services: You must use Xevium services. No exceptions!
- SSL: HUGE plus if you can implement SSL connections with your IRCd
- Domain: Server names are not restricted, however, you must use our domain and they must follow our "geographical naming" system, and therefore you will need to provide the actual location of your server so we can generate the latter portion of the hostname for you!
In addition, the following rules apply to the server's owner:
- Must be a willing person and able to work well with our staff.
- Must have at least a novice understanding of both Linux and IRC.
- Our oper rules must be obeyed at all times.
Please note, that we, the Xevium senior staff, reserve the right to deny/remove servers from the network at their own discretion, for any reason. Also, keep in mind that just because you fall within the above criteria for linking does not guarantee a link to the Xevium network - again, we reserve the right to deny a link for any reason!
If and when your link request is approved by senior staff, you will be put on our "Gradual Trial" system. This works as follows:
- Stage 1: This stage lasts for 2 weeks, and during this time, you will be assigned your requested server name @ xevium.net BUT will not be added to the DNS pool. You are also restricted to local IRC operator on your own server, and will not be permitted to add any other opers.
- Stage 2: Stage 2 lasts for a week. At this stage your server's IP will be added into our DNS pool. You will still be restricted to local IRC-operator but will be permitted to add ONE (1) LOCAL IRC operator on your own server.
- Stage 3: The 3rd and final stage lasts for a week as well. At this stage, you may have up to 2 IRC operators (LOCAL ONLY) besides yourself. Since this is the last stage, uptime MUST be 100% - if your server delinks just once *AND* cannot be relinked after a period of no more than 30 minutes, your link will be denied.
If your server passes all 3 stages of the trial, it will become an established server on the network and your full allowed access will be granted. Please note that, excluding the hub, you are only permitted a maximum of 2 server admins + 1 global IRC operator *OR* 1 server admin + 2 global IRC operators. PLEASE CHOOSE YOUR STAFF WISELY!
